Water Effect

The water effect feature provides specialized shader effects for creating stylized water, lakes, rivers, and ocean surfaces. It combines animated ripples, reflections, and depth effects to create visually appealing water surfaces.

Main Parameters

Use Water Effect

A toggle to enable or disable the water effect.

Water Color

The base color of the water. This sets the overall tint of the water.

Water Transparency

Controls the transparency of the water. Lower values create more opaque water, while higher values create more transparent water.

Ripple Texture

A normal map that defines the ripple pattern on the water surface.

Ripple Speed

Controls the speed of the ripple animation. X and Y values control movement in horizontal and vertical directions respectively.

Ripple Strength

Controls the intensity of the ripple normal map. Higher values create more pronounced ripples.

Reflection Intensity

Controls the strength of reflections on the water surface. Higher values create more reflective water.

Depth Color

The color that appears as the water gets deeper. This is used to simulate depth effects.

Depth Distance

Controls the distance at which the depth effect is applied. Lower values transition to the depth color more quickly.

Usage

The water effect is useful for creating various water surfaces:

  1. Enable "Use Water Effect"
  2. Set the water color and transparency appropriate for your water type
  3. Assign a ripple texture and adjust the ripple strength
  4. Set the ripple speed to control animation speed
  5. Adjust reflection intensity to set how reflective the water surface is
  6. Set depth color and depth distance to fine-tune the depth effect

Things to consider when using the water effect:

  • Using a tileable ripple normal map will provide more natural results
  • Setting different X and Y values for ripple speed creates more complex ripple patterns
  • Depth color is typically set darker and more saturated than the base water color
  • Reflection intensity interacts with scene lighting to create highlights on the water surface
