Rim Light

Rim Light creates a glowing effect along the edges of your model, enhancing the visual depth and creating a stylized look.

Main Parameters

Use Rim Light

Toggle to enable or disable the rim light effect.

Rim Light Power

Controls how quickly the rim light fades. Lower values create a wider rim light, while higher values create a narrower, more defined edge.

Rim Width

Determines how far the rim light extends from the edge of the model.

Rim Color

Sets the color of the rim light. This can be set to any color, including HDR values for a glowing effect.

Rim Mask

A grayscale texture that controls where the rim light appears. White areas show the rim light, while black areas hide it.

Rim Fresnel Power

Controls the Fresnel effect of the rim light. Higher values make the rim light more dependent on the viewing angle.

Rim Light Align

Determines how much the rim light aligns with the main light direction. At 0, the rim light appears on all edges; at 1, it only appears on edges facing away from the light.

Rim Light Smoothness

Controls how smooth the transition is between the rim light and the rest of the material.

Gradient Rim Light

Use Rim Light Gradient

Toggle to enable a gradient effect on the rim light.

Rim Color Top

Sets the color for the top part of the rim light gradient.

Rim Color Bottom

Sets the color for the bottom part of the rim light gradient.

Usage

Rim Light is excellent for creating glowing edges or highlighting the silhouette of your models:

  1. Enable "Use Rim Light"
  2. Adjust the Rim Light Power and Width to control the size of the effect
  3. Set the Rim Color to create the desired glow
  4. Use the Rim Mask if you want to control where the rim light appears
  5. For a more dynamic effect, enable the gradient option and set different colors for top and bottom

Rim Light works well in combination with Rim Shade to create more complex edge effects.
